Advice for the DJs, producers and artists of our community: As a musician I believe it is key to always challenge yourself. I see a lot of DJs, and musicians in general (myself included), getting into this routine of practice where comfort in what you play takes priority over experimentation and the self-reflection of that practice. As DJs, our musical identity is often based around what genre of music we spin, but much like playing an instrument, experimenting with different forms of music can really impact the way you listen, play, and appreciate what you’re trying to create. Aim to step outside your own norm and focus on a new technique, style, effect, process, and especially look to your community for inspiration. Experimentation is essential to all musical practice and DJing is no different. And prioritize community over everything, surround yourself with kind and open-minded individuals 🙂 !
