Advice for the DJs, producers and artists of our community: It’s okay to have boundaries, and to hold parts of yourself private or sacred. Art might be about expressing and sharing yourself, but it doesn’t necessarily need to be about baring yourself.

About the mix: I was lucky enough to meet Leesh at Movement, on the precipice of several life changes and around two weeks before moving to Baltimore from North Carolina. All of the tracks that you will be hearing in this mix were written between meeting Leesh and exporting this mix, with the exception of three tracks that have been edited or reimagined since originally produced. While some of these tunes are fully-fleshed out tracks with beginnings, middles, and ends, many of them are in the works. In a way, this mix is more like a podcast than anything I have done before: it’s my diary, of sorts, with some pages fully-written, composed, emotional and complicated. Others are unfinished, simple notes of the day — small reminders to dance, drink water, get some anger or anxiety out, or just giggle. As I flip through notes, so do I genres: this mix is more meant to show the breadth of my work and what I am currently working on, as opposed to a buttery, one-genre exploration, where I play only finalized tracks.

This mix was performed live on 2 x Electribe MX models, that I mix together with a Xone:96 — basically, it’s like DJing with hardware. With this live set, I embrace all the wackiness of what it means to be a live producer, and the magic (and sometimes chaos) of that unexpectedness and lack of control. If any of these tracks see the light of day beyond Daisychain, they will be self-released on itiskir.bandcamp.com.
